Early Life: Omar A. was born in the North Philly section of Philadelphia with his mother and father, surrounded by a large musically & athletically talented family. His grandfather owned an independent record label which introduced Omar to the industry and that indelible music that would infect his soul forever. With the introduction to music such as Marvin Gaye, Patti Labelle, Earth Wind and Fire a foundation was set in his heart. Nothing influenced him though like the late great Michael Jackson, who to this day is his musical deity. Hip Hop would give Omar A his path though to his sound and identity as an artist, with nothing making a larger impact than Jay-Z and ROC a Fella records, The Notorious B.I.G, P. Diddy and the whole BAD BOY sound of the mid to late 90’s. With saving the best for last, Boyz to Men and Jodeci set the groundwork and foundation of what Omar A. envisioned himself as when it was his turn to entertain the world. Early on in welding class at Maustbaum High School in Philly, Omar and classmates would use their lack of welding skills to rehearse over and over specifically “On Bended Knee”, “I’ll Make Love to You” and “Feenin” by Boyz to Men and Jodeci respectively. Sports were also a major part in the singer/songwriters life. Playing three sports all 4 years in high school (football, basketball and track) Omar a continued them on into college. Attending the University of Pittsburgh , were he graduated with a Bachelor of
Science, Omar was able to truly find his sound, style and most importantly a team who shared his musical vision.
Career: While still in school he released his first full length 2002 independent album entitled “You Can Make it Happen.” With as strong local following and positive reviews lit a fire under him that he had never felt before. This motivation and momentum led to the 2003 independent LP release of “I’m Only Human” and the 2004 independent LP release of “Year of the O.A.SIS” which resulted in local radio play of the debut single “What’s That Language.” The song debut on Pittsburgh #1 station for Hip Hop/R&B 106.7 WAMO‘s “Battle of the Beats” winning 8 weeks in a row and earning him the prestigious award of being retired. Opening for major acts such as Bone Thugs n Harmony and numerous local and regionally know artist, Omar A has set the frame work for a major worldwide release of his next full length album.
Presently residing in Charlotte, NC Omar is excited and ready to hit the ground running with the release of his new 2012 single “You Know What’s Comin.” Capturing the mood of the industry and the emotion of the public “You Know What’s Comin” is an infectious up-tempo single poised to rock us all. Currently working on his 4th studio album, Omar A. is poised to make the splash as those he so much admired growing up have done in the past.
