Leek
Biography Excerpts:
"Malik Parker- Hill aka Leek, was born December 8, 1986 in a Northside neighborhood of Philadelphia PA. He grew up in a single parent home in the inner city, one of 9 siblings. As the one of the younger children, Leek looked up to his older brothers who were into hip hop and rap in the early 90's. Some of his early influences were LL Cool J, Rakim, Run DMC, The Wu-Tang Clan, Rob Base and Kid n Play.
Leek and YNR have Opened for artist like Bay area Legend Yuk Mouth and Savage, and has featured on coast2coastmixtapes Vol. 90 along with artists T.I and J.Cole. Recently Leek has been working on a solo project with Indie Labels Concrete Office and Unkockable Ent. He can also be found hosting a local television program based in Salem Oregon called 'In The 503.'"
Our exclusive interview with Leek:
MP: Leek, please introduce yourself as an artist to the audience here at The MC Magazine and abroad.
L: What up yaw? My name is Leek aka "Charlie French." I bet your wondering where the Charlie French came from… It’s actually my alter ego, the smoother side of Leek. My team is Cypher Music Group and Concrete Office back on the East Coast (what up Henny!) My manager’s name is Bernard Powell, or “Pro” as I call him.
MP: When did you know that music was something that you wanted to make more than a hobby?
L: When I realized I can really move the crowd. I performed live with Marques Houston at the Barracuda. There were about 1,500 people there, and the crowd’s reaction to our performance really hit me and changed my outlook on music and making it a career. I began to realize that I can take it all the way so I started taking my music seriously and began treating it like a business, and started to create my image and brand.
MP: The Music industry is very competitive, what separates you from your competitors?
L: The music industry IS very competitive! I think what separates me from others on the local scene is that I really take what I do seriously, and I love just being myself. The music I make is me.
MP: What is your favorite part of doing music?
L: My favorite part of doing music… I’d have to say my favorite part of creating music would have to be the connections I make with the fans and seeing people vibe and relate to my music; whether I’m performing, or driving around with my boys and seeing them Maxxin out to my songs.
MP: Have you worked with any prestigious names so far? If so, who?
L: I sure have! I've worked with and opened up for numerous artist; Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony, Plies, Lloyd, Kirko Bangz, Kid Ink, The New Boys, Yg, Nipsey Hussle, Too Short, Yuk Mouth and Savage all in this past year.
MP: What is your greatest accomplishment so far that you're most proud of?
L: Well, definitely one of my greatest accomplishments would have to be opening up for Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony at the Roseland Theater in Portland. The show was sold out. The hypest crowd I’ve seen so far! After the show I had the opportunity to kick it with the guys and they’re legends in the game. That was definitely something special to me, like a personal milestone. And being in the green room and having people come down for the meet and greet with Bone Thugs and hearing them ask "Where's Leek at? I want to get a picture with him and an autograph!" That really humbled me. I’m thankful and grateful for everything that comes my way and this would have to be one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.MP: Where can people find your music?
L: On my reverbnation page, my fan page on Facebook, Datpiff.com, HotNewHipHop.com, Just type "Leek Da Barber" into Google and all pops up. I’m featured on like coast2coastmixtapes Vol. 91 on a song called ‘Fli Boi’ Ft. Francheyez. You can search "Black and White Rose Vol. 1" on Datpiff to download my collab mixtape with Rose City Gang. I’ve also got lots of stuff on YouTube.

What sets you apart from other artists?
Brisky has the talent that is lacking from hip hop music today. Matched with the talent is a fresh flow and word play that can be appreciated by true hip hop heads and lovers of music. To solidify him, his lyrics touch on subjects that people can relate to and feel. Not to be put in a box, BRISKY can also create songs geared more towards the females as displayed on his earlier mixtape 'Ladies & A Gentleman'. BRISKY is a true artist with a great amount of genuine potential.

TMC: Introduce yourself.
Bee Rauk: Bee Rauk born in 93' is a young talented female hip hop artist straight out of Southern NJ. Her passion and ambition sets her apart from many other artists' in the game but also her flow and genre is so unique. Bee Rauk is currently a college student but always makes time to pursue her dreams and remain consistent with music by any means.Music runs through her veins and she has been writing music since she was 14 years old but recently has set her aspirations on it realizing that God gave her a gift and her gift back to him is using it to it's full extent and power. Bee Rauk says her influences are solely on two artists Wale and Kendrick Lamar, who Bee Rauk feels are greatness at its peak. "Dreams are like stars...you may never touch them, but if you follow them they will lead you to your destiny. Dream big."
TMC: What made you pursue music?
Bee Rauk: My journey into the music industry began with my passion for poetry. I would write down my thoughts, feelings, and anything that was on my heart, and then I'd present what I had written to my Church and some of my friends. I always would receive positive feedback which would fuel me to continue writing. I wrote one poem that meant the world to me and it really opened my eyes to my talent. The poem was centered on my grandfather’s cancer diagnosis. I finally gave in to the compliments I recieved and decided I had to make something of her writing. The thought came to me that I should combine both of her passions (music and writing) and I start making music. After that and to this day I can't stop, I'm so hungry to better myself and make it.
TMC: What sets you apart from other artists?
Bee Rauk: First and foremost I'm a female which sets me apart a lot because sometimes I'm not taken as seriously as other starving artists. My music sets me apart, It's real, it's heartfelt, it's life. All of my music tells stories. My love for music is conveyed through my sound every time I get in the booth I leave my heart there music isn't a hobby to me it's a lifestyle and a must.

This singer, dancer, model, and overall entrepreneur is more then a triple threat that is Definitely demanding attention. Her urban pop style is evident in her sassy sound due to her early childhood growing up in Brooklyn, New York. Mia Rey is a Puerto Rican that grew up in a very strong christian household that keeps her level headed in the game. When she did her first gig at the age of five everyone new that she was a natural in front of the camera.
Since a very young age her passion for music and entertaining people flourished into her dreams of becoming a musical artist. Her phenomenal dance moves are influenced by all types of music but that hip hop swagger is indistinguishable. Her accurate but sharp dance moves are no accident and are due to grueling hours of herself mastering the art of dance alone. Mia Rey's early years in dance were experienced in directing church plays, her cheerleading squad, and competitive allstar dance teams.
Her attention grabbing lyrics and infectious beats are undeniable catchy and gets everyone in the mood for a good time. Mia Rey's vocal range is remarkable and amazes people that a big voice comes out of this 5' 3" model. Don't let the pretty face fool you. She is more than a model who caught the attention of Rapper/ Song Writer Yung Berg, who has taken her under his wings. Her musical Influences are as versatile as her style from Fabulous to Paramore. She is definitely an artist to keep an eye on. Her philosophy is : "Do What You love and Love What You Do! Just remember to keep God first and everything will work out for You". Her plans are to get to the top and take over the Game.

TMC: For those who may not know you, tell the people who Dot Com is.
Dot Com: last year's carolina music award winner for best new artist and the fastest rising underground artist in the south ! one who was able to utilize the internet like no other and get this far without a budget or a professional team around him including a manager, all which is about to be taken care of.TMC: How exactly did you get that name Dot Com?
Dot Com: all about evolution i guess, my initial stage name was r-dot, then i dropped the "r" b/c there were so many, ex: j-dot, c-dot, b-dot ... then later while working as an internet repair tech, i started having fun with urls as a sneaky way to fool around w/o management catching on, for example i would type something like http://www.ihatethisdamnjob.com & no one would be able 2 even see what i typed , only those who knew what was up after they clicked the link ! there's alot more to it as well, but that's initially where it all began, then it just made sense, we live in the internet era , and i believe i am the future of hip hop & an example of how to make it in this day & age even if you don't have the funds or the professional help as long as you're able to utilize the net. TMC: What was it about being an artist that made you want to pursue it?
Dot Com: not one thing in particular, this is just my purpose in life so it was either pursue it or shift the stars lol
TMC: How do feel you a are a Unique Artist?
Dot Com: well specifically with rap artists, im unique due to my background, i came from a very rough area & i made it out and then went to a "white" college, so im very well rounded & balanced & that shows through my music. Im also unafraid to be myself, and im proud of my education and the fact that im a smart individual, alot of artist are musically sound but not so smart in the common sense of intellect, and then you have some of those who actually are very smart yet they try to downplay it to portray some type of persona that isn't really them.
TMC: What projects do you currently have in the works that you can tell us?
Dot Com: due to me taking this 1st 1/2 of the year to focus on finally getting my business foundation laid so i can truly pursue things on the career side , beginning in June i'll be releasing alot of free mixtapes , some conceptual, some just randomly put together with different djs, but some i can speak about will be "P.O.T.S (Prince Of The South)" , "For The Ladies Vol. 2" , & A Compilation Project with My team SSG
TMC: I seen a lot about "SuperStar Swag Gang" can you tell us a little bit about that?
Dot Com: we are a collective organization of individual superstars in our own right, we each possess that appeal that would have common folk approach us even if they didn't realize who we were, it's just something about us. we welcome all of our fans & supporters to take part in it, b/c it's not just music it's a lifestyle and all about carrying yourself with the swag of a superstar ! musically, we'll be putting out our first compilation project "#SwagSalute" this summer & i'll focus on marketing some of the top artists on the team.
TMC: Name some people you look up to when it comes to music?
Dot Com: my list is pretty typical i guess, but it's really 2pac, big, jayz, nas, eminem, some atypical ppl i look up to is james brown, michael jackson, prince, elvis & rick james , they were all some of the greatest entertainers ever and more-so then just a musician im an entertainer.
TMC: What's something people may not know about you?
Dot Com:i skipped the 2nd grade , i used to be a genius lol
TMC: What's next for Dot Com?
Dot Com: Well after finally getting official management & a budget everyone can expect me to takeover the region as fast as i took over my local market
